BULGA MAY REACH 8.10m OVERNIGHT MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLE AT SINGLETON DURING WEDNESDAY. Heavy rainfall since Sunday morning has caused river level rises across the Hunter River catchment. Significant river level rises have been observed along Wollombi Brook, where major flooding is occurring above March 2022 levels at Wollombi and Bulga. Further rises are expected overnight Tuesday into Wednesday and levels at Bulga may reach 8.1 metres. Along the Lower Hunter River at Singleton, minor flooding is possible overnight Tuesday into Wednesday with moderate flooding possible from during Wednesday. Minor flooding and renewed rises are occurring at Maitland. Further rainfall is forecast for the remainder of Tuesday into Wednesday, which may cause further river level rises and prolonged flooding. This situation is being closely monitored, and revised predictions will be provided as necessary. Wollombi Brook: Major flooding is occurring along the Wollombi Brook. Major flooding is expected to continue on Wollombi Brook at Wollombi and further rises to around 14.00 metres are possible overnight Tuesday into Wednesday. The Wollombi Brook at Bulga is currently at 7.48 metres and rising, with major flooding (above March 2022 and March 2021 levels). River rises and major flooding are expected to continue during Tuesday evening, and the Wollombi Brook at Bulga may reach around 8.10 metres overnight Tuesday into Wednesday. Lower Hunter: Minor flooding is occurring along the Lower Hunter River at Maitland. Minor flooding is possible at Singleton. The Hunter River at Singleton may reach the minor flood level (10.00 metres) overnight Tuesday into Wednesday. The river level may reach the moderate flood level (11.50 m) during Wednesday, higher levels are possible with forecast rainfall. The Hunter River at Maitland (Belmore Bridge) peaked at 7.09 metres around 06:00 pm Monday and is currently at 6.36 metres and steady, with minor flooding. Issued at 4:14 pm Tuesday, 5 July 2022. The threat of localised heavy rainfall to persist about the Mid North Coast and parts of the Northern Tablelands, while easing throughout the Hunter. Weather Situation Onshore flow combined with an upper trough will continue to bring persistent rainfall. A coastal trough is also forecast to develop across the northeast later this evening then deepen in response to a highly amplified upper trough and associated low on Wednesday, before pushing further offshore late Wednesday. HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas: Mid North Coast and Northern Tablelands HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING may develop across the Mid North Coast and southeastern areas of the Northern Tablelands later this evening, continuing through Wednesday and easing late Wednesday. Six-hourly rainfall totals between 60 to 90 mm are possible, with some very isolated six-hourly totals reaching up to 125 mm. Rainfall will further contribute to flooding already being experienced and maintains the potential for landslides. DAMAGING WINDS are no longer expected across the warning area. However, strong and gusty winds may still provide the risk of trees toppling in softer and very saturated soils, particularly about the coastal fringe and ranges.
